8th Grade Boys-Week of Feb 21st, 2005

Well, the weekend was mixed bag of good and not so good. We played the Mustangs twice this past weekend and split a game a piece. Saturday at Kellom, Westside held the lead for most of the game and finally pulled ahead to win by 12 points. Mustangs, with only 5 players, played mainly 2-3 zone defense and we attacked it with good ball movement and good post play. Against any zone, when you move the ball quickly and attack the seams, you will have success as long as the shots fall. The shots didn't fall in the first half but we were consistent and we knew if we worked to get good shots they would fall. Preston and Nick and Josh did a great job in the post and running short corner. All our wings and guards limited the amount of turnovers and hit shots from the outside which helped our post play. For once, the referring was tight at Kellom and that threw us for a loop.

Sunday, was different. We took a 2 point lead into halftime, but stalled in the second half as our offense sputtered in the middle of the half. Mustangs played well and rarely turned the ball over and were good on defense. Our defense, in the first half was good and very good at times. However, the second half was a different story as we were slow to react. But we almost came back from a 10 point deficit, but couldn't quite make it back. Overall a good game by both teams and we hope to see them in the tournament.

8th Grade Boys Update

The second half of the year has been challenging, exciting and full of new twists and turns. After capturing the Silver Division Championship in the Predator League, the 8th Grade Boys moved up to the Gold Division in Predator and began the winter season at Kellom. So far they have compiled a 6 and 6 record with a 3 and 3 record in both leagues. However, they are starting to peak again with a 3 game winning streak. They will have 2 back to back games this weekend against the Mustangs, which has kids from Westside Middle School on their team. So it should be fun for all. Saturday's game at Kellom is at 3:00 pm and Sunday's Predator game starts at 2:00 pm.

Right know the plan is to participate in the MIT in Lincoln and the Middle West Tournament. Dates and times to follow.

Welcome to the Westside Select Basketball Blog. I am creating this Blog on a trial basis to keep all of us up to date on remaining games and tournaments. I am also asking for feedback (good and constructive) on our program and any ideas on how to make this better. I will be asking coaches of each grade to keep me posted on new developments and success stories they have with their teams.

When providing feedback, you can click on comments and the site will walk you through on how to leave a comment. You will be asked to create a user name. This can and will be confidential to your computer only. If you want to leave your name in your comments, you are more than welcome to.

Again, I want this to be a positive interactive blog where we can pass along information and read your thoughts and ideas. I hope you enjoy this and if you have ideas to make this better please let me know.
